LAINS ARCHITECTURE

The elegantly designed area on the rooftop of a family-run hotel invites you to swim and sunbathe with a fantastic view. The water shimmering mysteriously blue through the glass panels of the rooftop pool is visible from afar and makes the roof of the hotel an unmistakable landmark, especially in the evening. Hotel guests and curious passers-by who visit this roof terrace will discover a newly designed open space with a small sky pool by the LAINS architecture firm.

CONCEPT

The restructuring of the roof area was particularly challenging for the architects because the position and size of the water basins had to be co-ordinated in part with the load-bearing capacity of the existing structure, the existing pipes and the position of numerous vertical ventilation shafts.

From the outset, the design concept envisaged a raised pool area in the centre of the western part of the roof area, the water surface of which is around 1.5 m above the surrounding sun deck. This solution allowed for a glass panel in the pool side wall, giving the water element a strong visual presence.

‘Hotel guests should not only enjoy the refreshing water, the cool wind and the view of the mountain scenery here, but also the relaxed lounge atmosphere with sophisticated drinks and small events such as wine tastings around the bar.’
